Pen and ink art is understated as an art form because it looks so simple & easy…doodling?
Some uneducated buyers think pen & ink art should be cheaper to buy but, they are simply uninformed. Making shadows and dimension out of tiny dots and thin lines of ink requires patience, concentration and a steady hand. |
An ink wash drawing is simply a modified pen and ink drawing that uses an ink wash or, an application of shades of grey applied with a watercolor brush. This is high art and should be appreciated in the same critique as a watercolor painting. The challenge is to achieve the degree of contrast without overdoing it. One of the good things about this medium is, it's quick and with practice, efficient. |
Watercolor art requires the same demands of pen and ink and ink wash, combined. Pen and ink for areas of solid black; grey wash for some shade areas and reflections and blended colors to show shape and contrast without using a black "cartoonish" line. As in pen & ink and ink wash, there is no room for mistakes working with this demanding medium. You screw up, you discard it and start over. |
Adding a background to your ink drawing or watercolor painting is the same as creating a new work of art and should be charged as if a second painting was being ordered. If you wanted your home or a special view as part of your painting, such as the Matterhorn, then a firm quote will be presented before the new commission begins. |
Multiple cars or subjects in your new painting are not a problem...if the photo I'm using as the model includes them positioned in the way you want them in the finished art. If the photos are shot from different angles then allow for more time to adjust the stance and shapes to fit. In this example to the left, separate photos of each car were shot but, from the same aspect and time of day. A little more time up front but substantial savings overall. |
